Cult of the Lamb: A Blend of Adorable and Bloody

If you love the customization of Animal Crossing and The Binding of Isaac’s gameplay, meet the perfect union between them. Cult of the Lamb is a beautifully crafted game with too much sinful fun. Don’t let the cuteness of your woodland followers fool you as to how depraved they can and will be.

I first stumbled upon this game when it was released on the Nintendo Switch in 2022. Immediately, I was hooked, and I have invested over 250 hours in it. With how often DLC content is being dropped, I expect to add to those invested hours. I highly recommend adding all of them to your game as they are reasonably priced and add more fun to your growing cult.

Before I tell you anything more, I’d like to preface that this game is not for kids.

Cult of the Lamb occurs in a world with only followers and gods. As the last of your kind, you rise up to overtake all other gods. How you accomplish this goal is up to you. Will your followers worship a benevolent or malignant leader? The choices are yours, and you will get plenty of options. Want to create instead of recruit followers? Build a mating tent. Is a specific follower annoying you? Why not sacrifice them or commit murder. Maybe have them fight to the death with another follower. Get a bunch of them drunk and watch the chaos ensure. Or you could have them eat some mushrooms instead and spend the next few days riding a high.

The gameplay can sometimes have an uphill learning curve, but the payoff is worth learning the fighting mechanics. Soon, the motions become fluid for you, adding to the power you feel as the ruler of your cult. Just as the cult offers a variety of choices, you’ll have a skill tree and a plethora of weapons. Each weapon has a striking range, speed, and a set amount of damage it can inflict. I’d suggest becoming comfortable with them, as you don’t always get a choice, but my top picks are blunderbuss and gauntlets. The blunderbuss is great for enemies you want to keep a distance from that have ranged attacks and the gauntlets are great for lackeys with their amazing speed.

Take your time progressing through the game and picking the options given to you. They are permanent. If you enjoy the rogue-like fighting, as I do, ensure your cult can function for a few days without you. Otherwise, be ready to return to havoc as your followers lose faith and die of hunger or disease.

Cult of the Lamb is easily one of my top ten favorite games, and I hope I’ve encouraged you to try it. Massive Monster, the developers, have worked hard to earn that praise, and I can’t wait for future content and games.
